Julia Raring

Capturing Memories in Watercolor

About

Julia Raring is a painter whose primary medium is watercolor. She enjoys the challenge of creating intense color and tone while balancing calmness and clarity. Julia believes timing is everything and attempts to capture the simplicity and emotion of subjects in her life. She enjoys finding beauty in everyday objects and moments and memories that have meaning to the viewer, whether that may be a creek explored as a child, a seashell discovered by her daughter, or the exquisite detail of a flower. She obtained her BA in International Affairs from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va and currently is a member of the League of Roanoke Artists, Virginia Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, and Smith Mountain Arts Council. A recent transplant from Northwest Louisiana, Julia was previously on the SRAC Juried Artist Roster, the executive board of Shreveport’s Hoover Watercolor Society, and a member of the Bossier Arts Council. She lives in Roanoke, Virginia with her husband Patrick, and their children Amelia and Joseph.
